Choosing the Right Car Lift Made Simple by Redline Engineering LLC |
|
So you’ve decided to buy a car lift for your shop. Here are a few things the average enthusiast should take into consideration before purchasing a lift. 1. Purpose of the lift (Maintenance or Storage) 2. Space and height requirements 3. Electrical needs 4. Lifting capacity 5. How much to spend
|
|
Redline Engineering sells a multitude of different lifts that serve a variety of different functions for our customers. The most popular are two post maintenance and four post storage lifts
Two post maintenance lifts come in two styles. The most popular being the overhead beam lift. This lift is the common favorite because the bar connecting the two towers is at the top of the machine, leaving the floor completely open. This is very useful when trying to roll a jack around under the car or push a car onto the lift. Most two post lifts require a 220V power supply with a 30 AMP breaker.
|
The second type of two post maintenance lift is known as a floor plate lift. This machine does the exact same job; however, the two towers are connected by a 1 ½’ tall plate on the floor. This style lift is about 2 feet shorter than an overhead style clear floor lift. The floor plate lift is used in shops with low ceiling clearance.
These lifts come in different sizes from
6,000 to 15,000 LBS of lifting capacity. Keep in mind when choosing a lift
that you can do a small job with a big lift, but you can’t do a big job with
a small lift. The 9,000 LB capacity lift is the most popular, but if you
plan on lifting 1 ton and heavier trucks, you should look into upgrading the
size of the machine.
There are also several adaptations of single post lifts. These are typically much more expensive and are used for very tight and confined spaces, as are single post pallet jack style moveable lifts. |

So again, ask yourself a couple of questions. Do I want a storage lift or a maintenance lift? Do I have the height and room requirements for the lift that I choose? How much lifting capacity do I need and finally, do I have enough chips and soda for all the new friends I’ll have once I install a car lift in my garage? We hope this has aided you in making your decision.
